Antenna FAQ
Not always but it is recommended. If you are in a good signal area you can sometimes keep using the old Analogue antenna, but if it picture freezes up then its time to upgrade. If you are in a fair to poor signal area then almost always need to change the antenna
No, all digital antenna are also suitable for High Definition. However for High definition it sometimes pays to go for the more powerful (larger) digital antenna for better reliability
Yes, even in the best possible installations this still occurs occasionally meaning say 2-5 times in a 1 hour show and other times not at all. But if there an are constant then there is a signal problem. One of the things with digital reception is that it goes from a perfect picture to a frozen or no picture & losing sound and back to normal picture. Digital is susceptible to electrical interference caused by power lines, electric motors and faulty light transformers and dimmers- to mention a few! On analogue TV reception it will show a few white dots across the screen and the picture and sound will still be ok. With digital the images cut in and out often losing picture and /or sound for a moment on some or all the TV channels.
It is time to call in a professional TV technician with the most modern digital test gear to check from the antenna to the TV to find the cause and advise the remedy. Without a proper digital meter you are guessing what the problem will be
A set top box enables you to watch digital TV broadcasts on an analog TV. If you decide to keep your existing analog TV, you'll need a set top box to be able to view digital free-to-air TV after the switchover. Set top boxes range from basic Standard Definition (SD) models to High Definition (HD) models and may include electronic program guides, interactive features such as pausing and replaying live
Your Set top box or Digital TV may need to be reprogrammed try do an auto scan, if it doesn’t work you may have to call on site a Technician to fix the problem
Each point whether in use or not reduces the signal by approximately 3 Db in technical terms. Thus if there are more than 2 points to the household the signal would likely reduce to less than the minimal signal and an amplifier would be needed to boost the signal
